Products description

Kamele N'goni with bag

The Kamele N'goni (young mens harp) is a harp-oud from the Mandingue region of West Africa (especially Mali, Wassoulou region). This instrument originates from the 6 string donso (hunter) n’goni which is instrumental to hunter ceremonies, accompanying the singers praises of great hunters and taunts to other hunters to prove their hunting prowess.

This particular instrument is handmade and is made in Guinea with 12 strings. All wooden parts like contruction parts and handle are made of lenke wood (Afzelia africana). Also you have tuning pegs made of lenke wood. It can be easily changed on your own with metal keys from guitars as all drilled holes will fit exactly to any mechanic of guitars.

Mostly the N'goni will be tuned pentatonic like F#-A-H-D-E-F#-A-H or H-D-E-F#-A-H-D-E beginning from the deepest sounding string.

The handle of all offered N'gonis got the same lenght wich is around 110cm. Each calabash is individual in diameter. But in avarage the diameter vary between 32cm and 38cm in diameter.

The N'goni comes with a fitting Ngoni case. The are two shoulder straps, one handle and one outer bag on the case.
